17 Favorites from 2017 | northern California photographer
After my friend, Jenny, posted her favorites for 2017, I decided I would look at my catalogue to see if I could find any I really loved. It just felt like photographically, 2017 was not my best year. So I began going through the 12,000 images that remain on my hard drive for the past year. And surprisingly I came up with more than 17 favorites from 2017. So I narrowed my selections down to only landscapes. The year felt a little off balance. I just couldn't find my 'groove' in the winter. Then spring came along and I had a most successful trip to Oregon. But during summer I started a photography project for an author of an heirloom flower book. THAT totally got me off track with my own projects and shooting. Fall arrived full of photography opportunities and they were fantastic!!!The problem is that I haven't edited so many of the pictures yet. So I guess you could say these are my landscape favorites from those I've edited! In no particular order, and with various reasons for making my list, here are my 17 favorites from 2017.
17 Favorites from 2017
I took this last January after California had been drenched. The overflow of the causeway was doing its job! This is Rockaway Beach in Oregon. What a glorious morning that was! The light continued to change and put on quite a show for us.Soco Falls in North Carolina. Another beautiful spot in NC. I thank my friends Kathy and Jenny for making it happen!Oxbow Bend, WY just before sunrise. This feels a bit ethereal to me. And except for the dozens of other photographers there, it was.For whatever reason, I just love the distortion that my wide angle created for these mighty tall trees.Schwabacher Landing, WY at sunrise. Yes, the clouds really were that color! Teton friends, am I right?Valley View from my most recent visit to Yosemite. Even in drought conditions in winter, it is still awe-inspiring. Right, Karthika?Craggy Gardens! What a view of the Blue Ridge Mountains! I'll never forget it and the good times with Kathy and Jenny.I love fog. The bonus that day is this flock of gulls with a couple of eagles I didn't notice until I took the camera away from my face.Sunset at Rockaway with its ever-changing ripples and waves. I'll be going there again.Just a fun image of the Newport Bridge on a foggy, misty, cloudy night in Oregon shooting with my buddy, Doug.Remember, Cindy, when we scrambled (ran) to catch those last rays of sun on the ripples of sand on Morro Bay beach?Another view of Morro Bay beach. Love that golden light and reflection. When I'm pouring my morning coffee and the view out my kitchen window looks like this, I have to grab my camera.
I made an early morning trip to Tahoe for sunrise only to find the lake socked in with fog. Oh, well. I shot anyway. This! I almost forgot to click the shutter when I saw Horsetail Falls transform into Fire Falls. Incredible!Despite all the water, the almond trees persisted and bloomed just like they always do.
There you have it; my 17 favorites from 2017. We live in a most breathtaking world. And I feel very fortunate to capture the beauty I see wherever I go. Whether it is close to home or across the continent, there is eye-candy everywhere if you just look for it.
