Disappearing into Still Life
Every artist, I believe, has experienced the feeling of disappearing somewhat while working on their art. It's the art that becomes center stage while the artist takes a step back (figuratively). The calm of feeling unattached to the sense of self while so absorbed in the work becomes a creator's persona. For me that is through photography, specifically landscape or still life. I am not aware of myself nor my surroundings when I am immersed in the frame I am laboring over. I mentally disappear into Still Life photography.
“The camera makes you forget you’re there. It’s not like you are hiding but you forget, you are just looking so much.” ~ Annie Leibovitz
That is what photography is like for me. I forget I'm there. That was particularly so the day I photographed this bunch of flowers, a simple bouquet from the grocery store. I especially enjoy white flowers as they must stand on their own without any flashy color. I tried arranging them in different ways and photographing them from different angles. All the while, forgetting I was there. And so very peaceful.
