Iron Creek Falls Washington | Long Exposure
While exploring the gorgeous landscape of Washington, we made our way down the forest road to Iron Creek Falls. It was just a short walk to the creek and falls from the parking lot. I loved the fact that this creek was fairly shallow so we could see the beautiful river rocks on the bed of the creek. We were able to carefully walk across to the opposite side to get a different view of the falls. I think my favorite view was straight on from the middle of the creek. Having worn my waders, I was able to set my tripod up in the middle of the creek for a long exposure image.Slowing the shutter to blur the water gives the falls such a peaceful, fine art expression. I attached my Breakthrough 3-stop ND filter and polarizer to block some of the light entering my lens which enabled me to slow the shutter speed to soften the water flow.
Setting Up the Shots
1~ Set white balance and exposure settings.2~ Set up tripod in a stable place where the current isn't too strong.3~ Install the filters: polarizer and 3-stop, and adjust exposure settings.4~ Adjust the polarizer to reveal the underwater rocks in the foreground, cutting the glare.5~ Attach the camera to the tripod and adjust the shutter and exposure settings to achieve the amount of blur desired for the waterfall.6~ Use a tether to release the shutter to avoid camera shake.7~ Try a test shot, then adjust where necessary.

I've used several different lens filter systems over the years. By far my favorite one is Breakthrough filters. There is no holder to use as the filters screw right on to the lens. Adaptors are available to accommodate different sized lenses. There is no color cast in my images which cuts down on editing. When you purchase directly from Breakthrough Photography, there's a 300 day return policy with no restocking fees, free shipping and 0% tax.
