Milky Way and Waterfalls | Northern California
A few years ago on a road trip north, I managed to stop to photograph the Milky Way and a few waterfalls. I was on my way to attend a workshop in the Mount Rainier National Park in Washington. Despite there being so little rain and snow in northern California the previous winter, the waterfalls did not disappoint. And, the Milky Way, well, it's always awesome! (You can see my images of the Milky Way over Mt. Rainier in this post.) I have to say my trip started out quite well!

I began my trip shooting McArthur-Burney Falls. It’s an amazing waterfalls and considered one of the most beautiful in California. I'd been there several times, but there always seems to be another angle or view to capture. This time I took the trail around and over the falls. Beautiful!

There are three noted waterfalls on the McCloud River - the Upper, Middle and Lower falls. Although I had been to two of these falls before, I'd never seen the upper falls and wanted to photograph all three.

Fortunately, the moon was in its new phase making for a wonderful dark sky over Mount Shasta.
