Mono Lake Views | northern California Landscape photographer
Once you experience Mono Lake views, you are sure to want to plan another trip back. I know I did. Fall was the perfect time for our visit. It wasn't too cold. It wasn't too hot. There were few bugs. And, best of all, it wasn't too crowded. The unique spires or tufa towers in the lake are created from the minerals in the water. It seemed as though I was on another planet. The formations seem so foreign to our typical, familiar landscape, while the colors don't seem quite the same either. With the high mineral content of the water, they take on an unusual, beautiful tone. However, Mark Twain seems to disagree. So, maybe you should see for yourself.
Mono Lake lies in a lifeless, treeless, hideous desert, eight thousand feet above the level of the sea, and is guarded by mountains two thousand feet higher, whose summits are always clothed in clouds. This solemn, silent, sail-less sea--this lonely tenant of the loneliest spot on earth --is little graced with the picturesque.
~ Mark Twain
