Palouse | Day 2 | Curvy Lines

This is a retelling of my experience photographing the Palouse area during a workshop  through Sea to Summit Workshops (now called Jim Patterson Photography) in Palouse, WA.  After getting up at 3:00 and heading out to our intended site, we trapsed through tall, dewy weeds (full of ticks!) to arrive at the most beautiful view of the rolling hills that are the Palouse.  It is beauty, curvy lines, and lovely light to photographers, but it's farming and a livelihood to the people living here.  From time to time, I wondered how they felt about us photographing their farms, their homes, their environment.  (I felt like we were sort of the paparazzi of farms.  :D )  The early morning haze was a bit challenging, but the lovely golden light defined the hills quite well.

We visited some beautiful locations during the day and managed to conquer that bright, full sun.  This next image of the red barn was actually taken in Idaho, just over the border from Washington.  Those beautiful, softly rolling hills continued for as far as we could see.

Here are yet more views from Steptoe Butte State Park in southeastern Washington.  It really doesn't matter which area you view from the top of the Butte, there are hills and farms as far as you can see. When the sun was all but gone, we got the most gorgeous orange light.  It was brief, but oh, so stunning. We managed to pack a lot into the second day of our workshop with Sea to Summit Workshops from before dawn to after dusk.  Although we were all incredibly tired from a very full day of shooting, everyone was eager and ready for the next day's early morning start.
