Rowing on the River | Northern California Fine Art Photographer
When arising early in the morning while it is still dark to go out and photograph something, there is never really any insurance that conditions will be just right. There are lots of apps for offering information about conditions, and they can be quite accurate; but the bottom line is, you just don’t know for sure. We had scheduled a morning with a guide for rowing on the river in order to photograph wildlife in the area. Since the appointment was made weeks prior, we really had no idea what the conditions would actually be.
With high hopes and an early wakeup call, we were on the river before the sun was up. It was foggy, very foggy! But, we loaded into the boat and were on our way. What began as a questionable escapade, turned into a delightful morning on the river. As the fog lifted, the sun shone through like a beautiful golden beacon. While our guide rowed, we snapped away and enjoyed a most peaceful morning rowing on the river.
Rowing on the River
We snagged a peek at a coyote on the bank, but mostly we saw and photographed waterfowl. Great blue herons, mergansers, killdeers, kingfishers, an osprey, and more. It was a most gratifying morning.
There you have it. My morning on the river shooting with friends while the guide spotted for us and rowed! It was a great fall morning!

I had high hopes for practicing some techniques I had recently reviewed for photographing waterfowl. With my equipment, a towel to sit on, and my coffee, it was an exciting prospect to achieve the images for which I was so hopeful.
