World War II Memorial | northern California photographer
December 7 is the anniversary of the day that Pearl Harbor was bombed in 1941. For many people this day has been remembered as the event that prompted the US involvement in World War II. The president at the time, Franklin Roosevelt called it "a date which will live in infamy". There were 16 million Americans who served in that war. According to the US Department of Veterans Affairs, there are about 558,000 alive today. While vacationing in Washington DC about a month ago, we visited the World War II Memorial. It was completed in May 2004 and is a beautiful tribute, especially at night. As fewer WWII veteran's remain, this memorial will continue to remind Americans of the sacrifices made during that time.
