Visiting Roan Mountain | northern California landscape photographer
Several summers ago was a whirlwind. And, it all started with a trip to North Carolina to visit and photograph with my friends Kathy Roberts and Jennifer Carr. Kathy opened her beautiful home to us and created a photographer's dream schedule for us beginning with Roan Mountain on our first full day there. Having never been to that area of our amazing country, I really had no expectations. Except, seeing Kathy's photography work I knew I was in for a memorable time of exploring and eye-candy.The landscape in that area is full of rolling mountains, layers and layers of them all covered with green. Green trees, green bushes, green grass. So lush and beautiful. But I can't leave out the pink rhododendrons! Kathy timed our visit perfectly. The 'rhodies' were in full bloom and so were the flaming azaleas. Wow! What a rich yet delicate shade of orange. Probably the best accidental surprise for me was that we were hiking the Appalachian Trail. As far as the AT is concerned, we didn't hike far. But it was a bucket list moment for me that I will never forget. Although it was foggy when we arrived, that didn't dampen our spirits. Mother Nature rewarded us by clearing the fog and showing off some of her beautiful Tennessee and North Carolina landscape along the AT.
