Pumpkin Pie - WORST Ever | northern California photographer
When I proceeded to make pies for Thanksgiving dessert, I decided to get them ready early so I could photograph them for a still life project. Pumpkin pie and a version of Kentucky Derby Chocolate Walnut pie were on the menu. I don't do a lot of baking anymore. Who needs all those extra calories, sugar, fat? But, it wouldn't be our Thanksgiving if we didn't have pie.I got out all the ingredients, rolled out the pie dough, mixed up the filling, and put the pumpkin pie in the oven. Then I set out to make the chocolate walnut pie.Soon, I could smell the pumpkin pie, used a knife to check if it was done. It looked perfect! I couldn't wait to photograph it and eat it! So, I set things up in the studio and proceeded to photograph it. I cannot tell you how good it smelled!Fast forward to dinner and dessert. We were all stuffed, you know. But, there was pie! So, being Thanksgiving, I served it up, fulfilling the request of each person. I chose the Derby pie while the others chose pumpkin (or none at all). My Kentucky Derby Chocolate Walnut pie was heaven! I'm telling you it was unbelievably delicious. However, everyone else was slowly eating their pie and politely not saying too much. Finally, my husband said that the pumpkin pie was not very good. It was sort of bland; however, everyone continued to eat. So I sort of brushed it off but offered the chocolate pie and more ice cream to anyone who wanted it.That was that. Until the next morning when I decided to have some pumpkin pie with coffee. What a perfect way to begin the day after Thanksgiving! Until I took a bite of the pie. ICK!!! It was awful! It was the worst pie I'd ever tasted! Unbelievably BAD!!! I have no idea what I did wrong. The only thing I can come up with is that I didn't put any sugar in the pie. Worst PIE EVER!!!I'd love to hear of any kitchen disasters you've experienced, if you'd like to share!I think it photographed rather nicely!
