Things That Are Red | Northern California Fine Art Photography

In a world filled with colors, red often takes center stage. Its bold and dynamic nature makes it a popular choice for injecting energy and passion into images. But what is it about red that makes it so visually striking? Red subjects big or small will pop right out among their surroundings. Red is bold and strong!

The Allure of Red

The color red has the power to evoke strong emotions and reactions. In photography, it can convey a sense of excitement, urgency, or even danger. Understanding how viewers respond to red can help create compelling and impactful images. Oftentimes, photographers will shy away from red depending on the subject. But, if I’m photographing things in nature, and they are red, I just shoot away! So many flowers are red, different shades of red. Perfect subjects to photograph.

When photographing red subjects, lighting plays a crucial role in bringing out the richness and depth of the color. Natural light can enhance the vibrancy of red hues, so it's important to consider factors like time of day and direction of light when setting up your shot. Red is a color than can be ‘out of gamet’, so care must be taken when putting the final polish on your photo to get the color just right.

It’s fun to see different colors pop up in my work so putting them together gives a whole new perspective.
