Amazing Magical Morning
OK, so it wasn't exactly a magical morning. It was actually a perfectly average late autumn morning. But, as I often do, I went out walking with my camera. I live in a rural area and the route of my morning walks is pretty much the same each day with a little variation now and then. I walk along the rows of trees in our walnut orchard to the back of our property where there is a slough and lots of vegetation - trees, berry vines, poison oak, and weeds. There are plenty of critters there too, birds, deer, skunks, and others. It's a peaceful way to begin my day and I enjoy the serenity of walking by myself listening to the sounds and just enjoying morning.
As I walk, I'm always looking for things that appeal to me while I'm thinking through my plans for the day. I try to watch for the light and how it plays against the trees and leaves. So getting out just before sunrise is often my goal. I love mornings so getting up early appeals to me.
Beginning my Day
Mornings. Coffee. Quiet. Peace. Thoughts. Sunrise. The beginning of a new day. A solo walk observing the beauty of the morning. What could be better?
On this particular day, I walked out the back door toward the 'shop', stopping to photograph the mini lilac against the rising sun. Then I continued along the dirt orchard road to the slough, shooting as I went. I crossed the back of the property along the slough over to what used to be my uncle's place (which was my grandparents' before him) and photographed the big red barn. I love that old barn. The shadows of the tree branches almost seemed to be posing on that big red wooden wall.
I remember as a small child watching my uncle milk the cows there. I was fascinated by the entire procedure which is much different today. And I loved seeing all the 'stuff' contained in that barn. Great memories and perhaps a story for another day.
I headed home content with the images I had captured on that not-so magical morning. But the light. The light was definitely magical that morning.

As my interests evolved in photography subjects, I became interested in wildlife and, ultimately, birds. Because birds are everywhere, they are just such a great subject. Each year during the winter there are thousands of sandhill cranes in the valley who over-winter here.
