Death Valley in Winter 2024

When my friend, Brie Stockwell, organized a gathering of photographers, I looked forward to attending and meeting other photographers who were new-to-me. Our meeting location was to be Josh Cripps Gallery in Lone Pine, CA. Because Lone Pine is near Death Valley, I decided to extend my trip to visit there as well.

I was especially enthused about this visit because of the appearance of Lake Manly which is in some years a dried lake bed full of mud cracks and salt patterns. Beautiful in their own right. But, the occurrence of a hurricane last fall created a wealth of water in the Valley, and so Lake Manly came to life once again as it does so periodically. This area is known as Bad Water.

There are many iconic locations throughout the landscape of Death Valley, but I was limited to the locations that were accessible from the main road. Since there was so much rain previously (Not that there was a lot of rain, but the desert cannot handle much!), many of the dirt roads were still washed out and not available.

The many locations I was able to get to did not disappoint.

The pastel colors of the Artists Palette glowed in the morning light.

And, just for fun, a couple more photos taken during my stay in Death Valley.

Enjoy a wonderful day. Get out there and take in a little nature!
